Starting usually between aged 8-15 years old periods are the part of the menstrual cycle where you bleed. Being on your period should not prevent you from playing sport, although it may change how you play. Some people may find that playing at full strength on heavier flow days difficult, but light exercise can really benefit and ease period symptoms which can range from heightened emotions to cramps and more.

  • Find a product that works for your cycle be it pads, tampons, menstrual cup and period pants. For many the preferred product they use normally with their period may change for when they are taking part in sport.
  • Check your club’s policy on providing products in Caught Short packs in kitbags.
  • Plan, track your menstrual cycle, pack paracetamol if needed for cramps, ensure you have a good sports bra to support sensitive boobs.
  • If your periods are not regular, you find them so painful that it prevents you from light exercise or your worried about excessive heavy bleeding contact a medical professional.
