Hormonal contraception, such as the pill, implant, the patch, injection and IUS (hormonal coil) work by disrupting the menstrual cycle.

Like all medications they can have a variety of side effects but also if used correctly are a great way to prevent unwanted pregnancy. There are also a variety of non-hormonal methods of contraception such as condoms which also act as a barrier method to prevent STIs.

Many women in sports use hormonal contraception to control their bleeds but different types affect our bodies in different ways, and you are often left for 3 months or longer to see how it works out potentially disrupting your netball season. So, making an informed decision is crucial. If you’re considering hormonal contraception - make sure to use reputable sources.
